Avec une formation en archéologie environnementale, Allison Bain est spécialiste en archéoentomologie, soit l'étude des insectes provenant des sols archéologiques pour faire des reconstructions environnementales et culturelles. Sa thèse de doctorat (Laval, 1999) était intitulée : « Archaeoentomological and Archaeoparasitological Reconstructions at Îlot Hunt (CeEt-110) : New Perspectives in Historical Archaeology (1850-1900) ».
